Mudgee Dragons’ junior rugby league season began on Saturday with all grades lucky enough to play at Glen Willow Regional Sporting Complex in a combined carnival day with the seniors.
Mudgee’s under 10s saw the day off to a flying start with a comprehensive 32-nil win against Blayney Bears.
Under 10s coach Todd Durrant described the first-round clash as “a tough game” with Mudgee’s defence being the telling factor.
“Mudgee’s forwards laid the platform for a wide attacking raid capitalised on by halfback Hudson Brown who scored five tries"
“Mudgee’s forwards laid the platform for a wide attacking raid capitalised on by halfback Hudson Brown who scored five tries,” he said.
“Charlie Stoffers, Noah Tourle, Wade Faucett and Ethan Harrison were very strong up the middle proving they will be a handful for any opposition in Group 10 this year with some very powerful runs and solid defence.”
“This weekend we take on the Bloomfield Tigers and this game will be a good indicator of where the sides stands in its first year in the Group 10 competition.”
The Dragons juniors had a successful day at Glen Willow with only two age groups going down in round one.
The under 11s drew with Bloomfield Tigers 6-6 in a match that was played mostly in the middle of the park and became a great battle between the forwards. The under 12s now have some work to do after going down 32-0 to Bathurst St Pats White.
The under 13s Dragons easily accounted for Bloomfield 36-10 while the under 14s weren’t so lucky, going down to Blayney 44-4.
Mudgee’s under 15s and under 16s (38-10) both had convincing wins against Bloomfield.
This weekend all Mudgee Dragons junior sides play away.
