Prevett captain-coached CYMS to the grand final in 2002, the club going down to Mudgee Dragons.
Prevett is now captain-coach of West Wyalong in the Group 9 competition and played in Riverina's first-round win over North Coast.
Although he never represented Western during his time in the Group 10, Prevett is looking forward to this weekend's clash.
"It should be good, I know a fair few of the (Western) guys," Prevett said.
"They should be fairly competitive, you have to be a good team to beat Newcastle. We won't be taking them too lightly."
Riverina beat North Coast in their first round game, which was played as an opener to the City-Country clash in Gosford on Friday night.
"We started off really well, but we lost our way and we only led 22-2- at half time," he said.
"But we kicked on after half time and ended up winning 32-20."
Prevett predicted Western would play a similar game to Riverina.
"They should be pretty similar I'd say," he said. "They'll be a fairly strong side and play a quick game."
Of the Western side, Prevett played with winger Matt Williamson during his time at CYMS.
He said playing against some former team mates and former opponents was not a worry.
"I'm not too fussed really, we have just got to do our job and we should be right," he said.
The Riverina side will likely be without captain-coach Steve Reardon, who injured his calf in the first-round win.
Reardon is now playing for Temora in Group 20, but had been a long-serving forward for the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL.
The Riverina line up also boasts former Penrith winger Robbie Beckett and ex-South Sydney and Western Reds front rower Brett Goldspink.
"We need to be enthusiastic early in the game, the first 20-30 minutes will really set the tone of the whole game," Prevett said.
"We have a pretty experienced bunch of blokes, but I'll see how we go," he said.
After leaving CYMS, Prevett took the captain-coaching role at West Wyalong, who were beaten in the Group 9 grand final.
